We at PAWS are very grateful to Wilja Reitz for her insistence that “the show must go on” at Ouland Royale, the only building on the Reitz family's Ouland Farm to be spared from the fires, which will re-open with this musical event.

Guests will be able to savour ClemenGold Gin Cocktails and Wilja’s delicious finger food and will take home a packet of ClemenGold-inspired biscuits and ClemenGold fruit.

Plett Open Garden Day will take place on Saturday 19 November. The following gardens will be on show:
Ouland Royale Restaurant and garden, Opposite Plett Airport on Airport Road.

When Wilja Reitz left Cape Town for Plett, she had a vision of building a beautiful “baroque barn” on the Reitz family farm. Ouland Royale, set in a lovely garden, with a pond and views over Plett valleys to the sea, has become one of Plett’s most popular venues, hosting musical and other events and a firm favourite for breakfast. Visit PAWS plant and cake sale for home-baked fare and bargain plants.

Oppenheimer Garden, 2 Hood Point Road, off Griz Nez Road, 0,5 km from Longships Road turnoff.

This spectacular natural garden, over three stands, has been expanded to include a lovely water feature. While sensitive to the fynbos, the owner chooses plants primarily for their “designerly feel”, reflecting texture and shape that satisfy her artistic talents. Local Nojo Design Shweshwe décor items on sale in support of the community.

Park, House, Great Basses Road, off Beacon Island Drive, opposite Longstone Park.

Now nicknamed The Tree House, the design of the house, using a lot of timber detail, was dictated by the majestic old existing Milkwood trees. The shady garden has a predominantly indigenous planting scheme, designed by Graham von Hoesslin. Plants were selected to attract nectar and fruit-eating birds, including the Knysna Loerie as well as bees and butterflies. Visit The Toy Project for very special handmade toys.

Harris Garden, 8 Beach Head Drive

Set on Plett’s most famous road, this garden has it all. Designed by Graham von Hoesslin, it features indigenous planting with a focus on colour. From the colourful sidewalk, stairs lead down into a courtyard, from where an impressive roof garden can be seen. More steps go down to a stunning garden overlooking the sea and Robberg Peninsula.

Tickets R80 for four gardens at all gardens.

Maps showing location of gardens available at Barney’s Kiosk, next to Mugg & Bean, Market Square, from Friday 11 November.

For visitors coming from Knysna and beyond, we recommend starting at Ouland Royale. At Harkerville Saturday Market (on the left on the N2), turn right onto newly tarred Airport Road and continue for 12.5 kms to Ouland.
