Art & Culture

Arts and Culture are seen as an indispensable part of educating a child and Greenwood is no exception. Within the teaching day our teachers use both arts and crafts as a tool for further understanding and cognitive development; all the senses are employed in our style of teaching so that every avenue has been employed to open up the child to learning. As such it is not unusual to see our classes covered in colourful and interesting crafts the children have made or used in their everyday classes.

In addition we have the services of 2 music teachers who are responsible for our class music lessons and the coaching and direction of our Greenwood choir every Friday afternoon.
Music, and art, are also offered as extra murals and are enthusiastically attended on the school premises.

Greenwood is very proud to be able to offer Xhosa as an additional language to all our learners, from Preschool onwards. We have many cultural and environmental shows and talks which are staged throughout the year. These include individual class tours and visits and shows for the entire school. Drama, enjoyed by the whole school in the yearly concert, is also undertaken in our Drama club which meets once a week.
Greenwood learners also take part in the annual Knysna Eisteddfod poetry and music competition and our 2009 entrants brought home a record number of gold medals.
